Blues 173/9 - Churt 176 for 8 in 38.2 overs (Rohit Singh 5 for 46) 40 over match. Lost by 2 wickets

Batting first on a typical lively Churt track, there were useful contributions from Tom Jordan (35), Rich Mule (31), and Zubir Ahmed (35). With nobody really getting stuck into the bowling, only Martin Corcoran (19) stood out in the middle order.

Defending that total with Tom and Rich opening, we felt things were going our way when both Churt's young openers departed cheaply. We fielded well, holding five catches, but Churt had some stubborn middle order batting, and our lack of bowling firepower was eventually exposed when they managed to scrape home with two wickets and two overs in hand.

Controversial incident of the match ocurred at the halfway point, when a Churt batsman hit the ball twice in strange circumstances and decided to walk without being given. Later research shows he was most probably not out, but with nobody on the pitch knowing much about Law 34, nothing could be done at the time. (A bottle of wine was happily accepted afterwards.)
