Match Drawn

A great display from the 9 men

We scored 251 for 5. Great scoring by debutants Arren Sutcliffe with 100, Leon Roberts 12 and David Shaw 19 and the ever - reliable Tom Ellen with 23. Ricky Lee was the fastest scorer with 67 - almost as fast as his motor bike journey from Cambridge.

Shamley Green is the place to watch cricket and the local talent walk by. Mike Corcoran found the scoring easy and the birds "better than those in Clapham"!

With only 2 windows broken by Arren we declared and headed for a great tea.

Tight bowling by the skipper for the day and at the other end debutant Lee Westley reduced the oppo to 21 for 3 whereupon their middle order tucked into our bowling and the 9 of us were running a bit more than we wanted to around the Shamley Green turf.

Enter the off-breaks of Leon Roberts who bowled a tight 9 over spell backed up by Tom. With the heat of the day taking its toll, despite Cormac's fine fielding and hat on display we kept with the spin attack and David Shaw picked up his first wicket with his left-arm Chinaman. With 10 overs left Shamley Green reached 200 for 5 so it was time to grab the last wickets. Arreb felled the Shamley Green Captain's son Toby with a full-bunger which meant we needed 2 wickets with 6 overs left...

Enter Mike Corcoran with a devasting 3 over spell designed to impress the Shamley Green totty he had been admiring. He grabbed a caught and bowled and strove for the last wicket ......

But it was not to be as they held out for a draw and we retired to the pub, avoiding the local resident looking a for a glazier to replace his windows.

Men of the match - Arren, Leon, Lee and David and Mike for driving them all to the game in his 3 seater car.

A special thanks to Ricky Lee who is returning to NZ - presumably to coach the NZ test batsmen and to ensure his children stop speaking proper English in Cambridge. Ricky we hope to see you again this season.
