Match Report

The Blues Lost the toss and were a bit surprised when the oppo decided to bat on a soft green looking track.A 35 over game was agreed and Tom Lascelles(son of Jeremy)opened the attack for the Blues with Sam Norman, both keeping the Loxwood openers well shackled before taking a wicket each with some very good line and length bowling.Ed Scarr of Virgin fame came on after Sam and settled into a very good spell of variable pace taking 4 useful wickets including the stubborn opener and dangerous no.6 (who scored 54) for only 31 runs in the permitted 8 overs.Aidan came on at the other end to take a couple of quick wickets while Tom Burchfield (returning from a gap year) reminded us what a good prospect he is with 3 economical overs and Paul Beaton took the last wicket on his debut to wind up the Loxwood innings on 157.
This seemed an eminently gettable total as the Blues really batted down to no.11.After one of the best teas of the season Jeremy Lascelles(father of Tom)opened with Blues legend John Burchfield.Unfortunately John was well caught before scoring.Jeremy carried on as ever scoring an excellent 34 with assistance from Matt Rolfe (who had done an excellent job as stand-in wicket keeper) who scored 14 before being caught off some excellent spin bowling.Their dangerous No.6 bat also showed he could bowl at pace weighing in with a couple of wickets(Paul Beaton for 4 and Mitch Corcoran for a useful 11). Aidan joined Ben Appleton who was holding the innings together at an important time.Ben scored a solid 34 before being caught and Aidan a quickfire 17 out chasing a very wide ball to bring in Tom Lascelles. He showed talent with the bat as he compiled a vital 19 before being bowled.Tom Burchfield wisely decided not to show his father up and departed without scoring - also bowled.
The Blues, after cruising it, were now down to the last 2 bats - Ed Scarr and Sam Norman who showed their experience and composure to gather the few remaining runs needed as the Blues finished on 161 for 9 in the last over to win rather more narrowly than expected. A good all round effort bringing home the bacon.
