Match Report

Blues turned up with only 6 players (Sam Selleck dropped out with twisted ankle from playing football on Sunday am). Fortunately Churt were able to provide several youngsters to play for us and we fielded 9 or 10 most of the time.Churt elected to bat in a 40 over game and put Blues bowlers under pressure with some aggressive batting putting away anything remotely over or short pitched with ease.Alex Beales opening for the Blues with Guy Freeman.Alex finished with figures of 6 overs 1 wicket for 46 runs.Guy was more economical with 6 overs 0 wickets for only 17 runs.Their opener was piling on the runs until Alex induced a false shot from the other opener to provide an easy catch before he got going. With the score on 87 Aidan came on with Matt Rolfe to try and slow down the scoring rate.Their good young opener had scored 64 before Aidan had him well caught by Alex Beales at wide mid-on.Matt chipped in with a good caught and bowled of their no.3 and Blues Bowlers got the upper hand.Aidan managed to bowl 3 more bats and with a useful run-out Blues looked in comand.Aidan retired with figures of 8 overs 4 wickets for 33 runs and Matt Rolfe 8 overs 1 wicket for 29 runs. Bringing on one of the loan players 12 year old Alec Weaver bowled slow leg breaks (and some off breaks Alan Porter assured us). This is a name to remember as he wants to bowl for England in the future and he was turning the ball prodigously both ways at only 12 and got 3 wickets (2 stumpings off successive balls by evergreen Alan Porter) in 3.3 overs for only 15 runs! This restricted Churt to 162 All Out.
This was felt to be a manageable score for Blues and Guy Freeman and Matt Rolfe were sent in to set about Churt after tea. Both batted sensibly with controlled aggression and put on 137 for the first wicket virtually winning the match.Matt Rolfe went eventually having scored an excellent 70 well caught. Guy stayed with Alex Beales to see us home finishing on 75 not out (Alex 6 not out).Guy hit a 6 for the winning runs and a comfortable win was achieved by the somewhat depleted Blues side. An excellent display and nice to see the enthusism of some of the Churt younsters.
Blues continue their unbeaten run and hopefully we can put on a better display at Frensham than last year when we were bowled out for 48!!

More players are still needed for the final fixture so get your names down please!!
