An overcast evening and a slow soft wicket made it tricky to score runs in our annual Martin Alden Trophy game. Winning the toss and batting first, we made slow progress but Rob Baldwin hung around after both Mick and Jeremy were out.

A couple of unfortunate run-outs later, and it looked as if we might struggle to reach 100. But Rob was still there getting the odd run or three.

With our overs running out we just made the ton, and Rob carried his bat. Our total of 109/8 looked gettable if we didn't get the dangermen (Seb Philips and Rob Williams) out cheaply.

Chris Philips and Rob (both on debut) opened the bowling and caused some dismay among the batting lineup with the amount of movement they were getting in the air. Although Rokeby were ahead of the run-rate, they started to lose wickets and were unable to score the boundaries as quickly as they wanted. Both the openers fell, and Rob Williams was eventually caught off a high skier in the deep by Rob Baldwin.

In the end, our bowling resources came to an end, and with just one over remaining, Rokeby clinched the win.

Many thanks to Richard and Philly for coming for the first half, and to Tom and his 'net crew' who will be most welcome to play again for the Blues.
