Blues, 233 all out (Ellen 45) lost to Odiham 273-4 (Ahmed 2-50) by 40 runs

The Blues came up against a particularly strong Odiham team, including a couple of first teamers as well as the club's two overseas players. A team that looked short of bowling performed remarkably well to keep Odiham to 273. However it must be noted that Odiham felt sufficiently comfortable with their total to declare after 35 overs, which is quite unusual in a 40 over match. The Blues took particular punishment from the two Australians, one making 100 and the other 50 not out and there was a fair amount of time spent looking for balls in bushes and fields. Ahmed bowled well for his two wickets and unusually for the blues there was some excellent ground fielding which help limit the damage. The Blues batted positively in response with Jordan, Berry, Jansa and Appleton all getting good starts before sacrificing their wickets in pursuit of runs. At 150 for 5 off 28 overs the Blues were some way off. However some late order belligerence from Ellen, batting first with Joe Button and then with George Whelan got the Blues back into the game and caused some consternation amongst the Odiham fielders. Inevitably Odiham called on the big guns and had a bit too much for the Blues whose valiant effort ended 40 runs short
