Detail: 25-04-2015 - Crossbats

Result: Won by 154 runs
Things went from good to great on Saturday as The Blues wrapped up their first win of the season.

A hugely impressible 100 (retired) from Metson, and 51(retired) from John, meant that The Blues posted an imposing 266 from 35 overs. Good contributions from Cormac, Roberts and Git (real name) along the way, on what was actually quite a difficult wicket. As The Blues enjoyed a great tea, including chicken kebabs, goats cheese tarts and sausage sandwiches, the general feeling was that The Blues were as many as 100 above par.

So it proved, with Drinkwater causing early damage with the new ball (including one great caught behind from Marie on debut), Martin tying an end up (finishing with 1 but having 2 others put down), Roberts picking up 1, Git picking up at least 2 (maybe 3)! And Corcoran Snr coming on at the end to pick up some tai-end wickets (always thinking about his stats). A good catch from Metson at short mid-wicket was also a highlight of an impressive bowling and fielding display.

Crossbats were all out for 112, and The Blues skipper had 4 pints at The Country Arms before meeting his girlfriend at 7pm?the merits of playing in Wandsworth being felt!

All in all it was a great day, and the pitch at Wandsworth Common a success (very well looked after). Already Crossbats have requested we play the annual fixture (previously in Richmond) at this pitch, so that?s certainly something we will look to do next year. There may be other matches we would play there, or free weekends we could perhaps fill with a London based fixture.

Well done to everybody who played on Saturday, great win, and a great start to the season. High standards to be maintained this weekend!

Michael Corcoran
