Detail: 20-09-2015 - Churt

Result: W by 39 runs
If you can work out what the heading means then you will have been playing in the final match of the season!

With 6 Blues players committed by Wednesday last week the skipper "reached out" to Colin the Churt skipper and agreed to "on board" some Churt players and have a 10 a side game

Congratulations to Blues debutants Rory Blanchard (recruited by Zubair) and Ajay (recruited by Das and me)... more later

Man of the match had to be awarded to Cormac who, had been involved in a car accident 2 days ago, still hired a car, brought the kit, played and supported a bloodied elbow which looked more like he had had a tangle with a leopard in the Zim bush rather than a car skirmish in Basingstoke. Now that is the commitment we want to see next year lads!

Blues opened up with 154 in the allotted 30 overs with Zubair (43) & Rory (25)contributing with the bat and Ajay showing promise for next season.

After a great tea the skipper set the side the task of winning the match by 5.45pm so that all teams could watch the 2nd half of NZ v Argentina.

Anyone who has played at Churt will know they possess 2 ferocious Hitters (Rolls & Toby) who usually massacre the Blues attack.

After Ajay had bowled well at the start getting his 1st Blues wicket and Zubair keeping it tight with 2 wickets, 1 of the Churt Hitters (Rolls) was still left on 50 with 10 overs to go and 50 needed. As the game drew to a close the Hitter could resist no longer and hitting across the line was triggered LBW by his own fellow Churt umpire off one of the Churt bowlers (Jordan) bowling for us.

Despite El Presidente Paul fielding at slip and Surrey League umpire saying there had been an inside edge & the skipper offering the Hitter the chance to return he had had enough realising that the Blues tight bowling, fielding and team spirit was too much.

With 1 wicket for victory & Churt needing 20 off the last 6 overs and it fast approaching 5.40pm, the Churt youngsters started risking singles and Ajay ran out the number 11 batsmen with a direct hit from mid - off.

The players then repaired to the clubhouse to watch the NZ v Argentina match with the Skipper delighted with the performance and readying himself for the Channel 5 interview for eh 7pm highlights programme.

With thanks to all who played from the Blues and Churt and supporters Alan Porter and Jill Whelan.

See you all at our Annual Dinner in November if not before!

Rich
