Blues falter at Shamley Green
The wonderful and quirky Shamley Green CC played host to a Blues side batting first and keen to build on their massive total at Shackleford last week. Aqib and Das opened proceedings with captain Beaky hoping that the former would be able to recreate his blistering batting performance at the 'Green' in 2014. Sadly it seems that his focus on making Youtube masterclass videos has affected his form but surely it won't be long before a big score! Das steadied the blues ship and there was a handy and elegant 30ish from Youcef who has already contributed more in one game than Tinky did in a few noisy seasons (do hope you're still on the email list tink?) Wickets were falling regularly but Cormac was the pick of the remaining batsmen with a bludgeoning six over square leg. The new boys Zain and Amin also weighed in with the classy Mullet stroking the ball around as we reached 157.
With a svelt and fresh Ronnie arriving to help the Blues out after tea, there was an air of (misplaced) optimism as we took to the field. Drinky and Mullet blustered in and did a good job at containing the opening batsmen. As ever there was athleticism aplenty in the field with Zain and Amin regularly threatening with their gun arms - in contrast to Metson and his dodgy 'long barrier'. Despite some good spells of medium pace and spin from Amin, Zain and Youcef, we were ultimately probably 450/50 runs short... Clarky hasn't been mentioned in dispatches yet because as he is now 'freelance' he charges for writing match reports so I didn't think her deserved it.. although can manage to fly Business to LA !!!
