Detail: 04-09-2016 - Frensham

Result: Draw
‎Under grey skies, the Blues turned up with a complete XI at the picturesque Frensham 'Half bowl' pitch only about 15 mins late.

As skips was late, I have no idea who won the toss, but we batted first!! We were also playing a timed fixture.

Historically Frensham is an absolute road of a track at this time of year and a batters heaven and a funeral service for the bowlers and par scores are 280/300!

Needless to say the Blues stuttered at 27-2, but when Skips joined Das (farming the strike) normality resumed and by drinks were 120-2 off 20 overs‎. Skips perished quickly there after for 53, but the 'free flowing' Das with joined by Clarky (33) maintained the scoring rate up to about 220. Just when we needed to up the rate the both went in quick succession, but special mention has to be made of Das who scored a fabulous 106!

The tail limped along until in the penultimate over Glenn scored 2 big sixes and dragged the score to 265-9....was it enough

The Frensham innings never really got going due to good opening 6 over spells from Glenn (1-19) and Aquib (1-31). Ronnie took a stunning (face saving) catch at 1st slip off the Balham express..at the second attempt, but wickets were not coming quite quick enough. Apples bowled a lovely spell taking 3 for 42, but was almost turning it too far for the batters. The 4 dropped catches (Skips and Das!!) were not costly but ate up valuable time.

With 12 overs to go in the day, Frensham were 130-7, but all we could muster was a run out. As the gloom descended and the fielder's circled the bat, the Frensham tail held strong and eventually finished up 188-8.‎ 265 was enough....but the WIN was close but no cigar!

Always a great fixture and splendid to hear we have XI confirmed for the tough Tilford fixture. Next sunday. Please let Rich Mullet know about the game 18th.

Also details of the annual dinner (late november) will be circulated in the next couple of weeks.

Well done Das again on a top ton and I might get around to a tour report soon!
